Harvey J Kaye is currently the Director of the Center for History and Social Change at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. He is the author of The Fight for the Four Freedoms, Thomas Paine and the Promise of America, "Why do Ruling Classes Fear History" and Other Questions and many other books, including one that we are currently negotiating to publish through Zero Books. That book is tentatively entitled Take Hold of Our History: Make America Radical Again. Harvey Kaye, thanks for coming on the Zero Books podcast.

    Mr. Lain,

    Your guest makes an interesting error when referencing Frederick Douglass. Mr Kaye claims that “nowhere in the Constitution does it say slavery”.

    Has Mr Kaye not read the Constitution he claims to be such an expert on? Article I Section 2 endorses slavery. Article I Section 9 prohibits Congress from banning slavery. Article 4 Section 2 prohibits free states from protecting escaped slaves from slave states.

    I realize it’s Thanksgiving, and everything is supposed to be about mom apple pie and the American flag, but the US Constitution could use a page one rewrite.

    And your friend sounds like an idiot when he makes claims that are so easily falsified.
